Tips & Tricks

  • Use a wire with insulation stripped on both ends or a metal paper clip to connect terminals 4 and 12 on the DLC3 connector.
  • Connect the jumper wire with the ignition off before starting the procedure.
  • On some models, the DLC3 connector may be installed upside down — on this model, pins 4 and 12 are counted from the left side, not the right.
  • This procedure applies to North American models only; other markets such as Europe and Japan may differ.
  • Do not touch the brake pedal when pressing the start button twice to turn the ignition on (except on newer models).
  • The pull/push sequence must be completed within 8 seconds of turning the ignition on.
  • On 2020 and newer NX models, if you get a 'release parking brake while depressing brake' message, perform the pull/push sequence with your foot on the brake pedal.
  • The parking brake warning light flashing rapidly confirms the sequence was accepted; flashing slowly confirms service mode is active.
  • Turn the ignition off before compressing the caliper and replacing the brake pads.
  • To exit service mode, turn the ignition on and pull the parking brake switch — wait for the warning light to stop flashing.
  • Remove the jumper wire from the DLC3 connector with the ignition off after the procedure is complete.
  • There is a small chance of setting a brake system fault code regardless of the method used — if set, it must be cleared with a good quality scan tool.
