2016-2022 Lexus RX350 Transmission Fluid Replacement Instructions

Parts Needed

• Transmission fluid
• Drain plug O-ring 90080-30075
• Fill plug gasket 90430-A0003
• Overflow tube O-ring 96721-24018
• Brake and parts cleaner
• Shop towels

Tools Needed

• Socket and ratchet set(10mm, 21mm, 24mm)
• Torx bit set(T40)
• Allen key set(17mm)
• 1/4 inch torque wrench
• 3/8 inch torque wrench
• 1/2 inch torque wrench
• Floor jack
• Jack stands
• Scan tool
• Fluid pump
• Drain pan

Tips & Tricks

• →Always remove the fill plug before draining — if the fill plug is seized, you'll have no way to refill the transmission.
• →Lift all four corners of the vehicle so it sits parallel to the ground; an uneven angle will cause incorrect fluid level setting.
• →Do not perform this service on a severely slanted driveway.
• →Intentionally overfill the transmission slightly so excess fluid overflows during the level-setting procedure — never underfill.
• →The fluid temperature must be 35–45°C (95–113°F) during overflow level adjustment; too hot causes underfill, too cold causes overfill.
• →If you lack a scan tool, use a metal paper clip or stripped jumper wire to connect terminals 4 and 13 on the DLC3 connector to enter temperature detection mode.
• →The D indicator staying solid means fluid is in the correct temperature range; flashing means too hot; off means too cold.
• →Lube the drain plug O-ring with fresh transmission fluid before reinstalling.
• →Do not replace the overflow tube plug O-ring until the final fluid level adjustment step.
• →After lowering the vehicle, confirm the D indicator is still solid before shutting off the engine to verify temperature stayed within range.
