Tips & Tricks

→Note that the fuel pump and the replacement procedure on the flex-fuel trucks is somewhat different and will require some additional steps.
→Run the tank as low as possible before starting — 100L of fuel weighs over 160 lbs.
→Wear goggles and have a rag or drain pan ready when disconnecting fuel lines, as fuel will spill out.
→When lowering the tank, go slowly to avoid ripping the fuel pump wiring harness connector.
→Do not rotate the pump assembly too much when removing the lock ring, as the float inside the fuel level sensor can break off.
→When the lock ring tabs hit the plastic stoppers, lift each tab with a screwdriver to clear it before continuing to turn.
→Replace the fuel pump strainer (Denso part #95200093) every time — do not reuse the old one.
→Reuse the plastic sleeve on the pump outlet; omitting it will push the O-ring down and cause fuel pressure loss.
→Always pull the old O-ring out from inside the pump housing before installing the new pump.
→Lube the new pump O-ring with gasoline before sliding it on.
→Blow out all dirt, dust, and debris from around the fuel pump top before opening the tank.
