2007-2021 Toyota Tundra Water Pump Replacement Instructions - Also For Sequoia, Land Cruiser, LX570

Parts Needed

• Water pump kit AISIN WPT-804
• Accessory drive belt Gates K080948
• Penetrating oil spray
• Coolant
• Silicone grease
• Brake and parts cleaner
• Shop towels
• Scour pads

Tools Needed

• Socket and ratchet set(10mm, 12mm, 14mm)
• Pry bar
• 3/8 inch torque wrench
• Small flat-blade screwdriver
• 1/4 inch impact driver
• Impact driver socket adapter set
• Drain pan
• Coolant bleeding funnel kit
• Trim and clip removal kit

Tips & Tricks

• →Spray penetrating oil where the fan mates to the pulley and let it soak before prying; rotate the fan 90° and pry gradually in circles until it breaks free.
• →Once a gap forms between the fan flange and pulley, insert a screwdriver or pry bar directly into the gap to separate them.
• →Clean the water pump mating surface with a green Scotch-Brite pad and brake cleaner or water — never use an abrasive disc on a grinder, as it can gouge the aluminum and prevent the gasket from sealing.
• →Blow out all bolt holes after cleaning so no coolant or water remains inside them.
• →All water pump bolts go into blind holes — do not apply silicone to any bolt threads, even if old silicone residue is present.
• →The longer 12mm head bolt goes in a specific hole; confirm placement before torquing.
• →Use silicone-based grease to hold the O-ring in its groove during thermostat housing installation.
• →Disconnect the front coolant hose from the engine side rather than at the thermostat housing — it's easier to access.
• →Fill the cooling system slowly to help it self-bleed and avoid trapping air bubbles.
• →Bleed the system by gently revving to ~2,000 RPM and watching for bubbles; the system is fully bled when no bubbles appear and the heater blows hot at idle.
• →If the heater blows hot while revving but cools at idle, air is still trapped — continue bleeding.
